565,600 illicit cigarettes seized at Kapitan Andreevo Border Crossing
Sofia, July 9 (Hibya) – Bulgarian customs authorities seized 565,600 illicit cigarettes from a truck traveling from Türkiye to Germany at the Kapitan Andreevo Border Crossing on the Bulgarian-Turkish border. An investigation has been launched.
Bulgarian Customs announced that 565,600 illicit cigarettes were seized during an operation carried out at the Kapitan Andreevo Border Crossing on the Bulgarian-Turkish border.
According to the statement, on July 7, a truck with Turkish license plates entering Bulgaria from Türkiye was subjected to a detailed customs inspection as part of a risk analysis. After X-ray screening revealed suspicious density in the cargo compartment, customs officers carried out a physical inspection of the vehicle.
During the search, officers found 565,600 cigarettes (28,280 packs), all bearing Turkish tax stamps, hidden inside electrical panel boxes located at the rear of the declared cargo.
The customs authorities stated that the seized illicit cigarettes were valued at 115,147.50 euros.
An investigation has been launched by a customs inspector under the supervision of the Haskovo Regional Prosecutor's Office.
