Dutch Foreign Minister Weel emphasized that a more efficient and simpler EU budget is essential for the Union’s competitiveness and security.

Highlighting the critical role of sharp budget choices and fair national contributions, Weel said: “Ahead of today’s General Affairs Council, we met with like-minded countries to discuss our shared priorities.”

Weel added that later in the day they would continue exchanging views with colleagues on the Multiannual Financial Framework, saying: “Other agenda items include the proposed agenda for the December European Council meeting, EU–UK relations, and the 2026 Commission Work Programme.”
