Trump to take legal action against the BBC
Washington, November 15 (Hibya) – U.S. President Donald Trump said he will take legal action against the BBC over how his speech was edited in the Panorama program, after the corporation apologized but refused to pay compensation.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Friday evening, Trump said: “We will likely file a lawsuit against them next week, somewhere between $1 billion and $5 billion.”
On Thursday, the BBC said the editing of the January 6, 2021 speech had, albeit unintentionally, “created the false impression that President Trump had directly called for acts of violence,” and announced it would not be broadcast again.
The corporation apologized to the president but stated it would not provide financial compensation.
Explaining his plan to take legal action, Trump said: “I think I have to do it. They cheated. They changed the words that came out of my mouth.”
He added that he had not discussed the matter with Sir Keir Starmer, though he said the Prime Minister wished to speak with him. Trump said he would call Starmer over the weekend.
A search of public court record databases confirmed that as of Friday evening, no lawsuit had been filed in either federal or state courts in Florida.
