Leyen: The EU will continue progressing on the path to global leadership
Johannesburg, 23 November (Hibya) – European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that the European Union has reached an agreement aimed at keeping global temperature rise within the 1.5°C limit and phasing out fossil fuels.
President of the European Commission Leyen announced that the European Union made a significant contribution to shaping a global climate agreement at the COP30 Climate Summit held in Belem.
She emphasized that after long and intensive negotiations, an agreement was reached targeting the limitation of global warming to 1.5°C and foreseeing a transition away from fossil fuels, adding: “The EU will continue advancing on the path to global leadership.”
Leyen noted that the next step will be joint efforts to implement the global “Mutirao” roadmaps prepared for climate action.
