EU Commissioner Lahbib: Rohingya deserve dignity and safety
Brussels, November 12 (Hibya) – The EU Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management, Hadja Lahbib, said that the Rohingya tragedy shows how rapidly the humanitarian situation in Myanmar is deteriorating.
Commissioner Lahbib made a statement following the tragic sinking of a boat carrying Rohingya refugees.
Highlighting that the incident shows how quickly the humanitarian and security situation is collapsing both within Myanmar and in the camps, Lahbib stated:
“The Rohingya boat tragedy is a stark reminder of how fast the humanitarian and security situation in Myanmar is collapsing. The Rohingya deserve dignity and safety. Until safe return becomes possible, increased funding and opportunities for self-reliance remain essential.”
